Teachers and Influences
David took piping lessons with Tommy Kearney, Jimmy O’Brien-Moran, Willie Reynolds, Breandán Breathnach, Ronan Browne, MacDara MacDonncha and Peter Carberry. He was additionally influenced by Seamus Ennis and Tommy Reck.
Competitions
David won the Senior All-Ireland piping championship and the Oireachtas piping competition in 1992. He represented Ireland at the L`orient Interceltic Festival the following year.

Tommy Kearney Recording
He researched and produced a substantial recording and biography of Tommy Kearney which was released by Na Píobairí Uilleann under their Master Pipers series.
Moving to the USA
In 2003 he moved to the United States and played the pipes in an off-Broadway production of Roger Gillen’s ‘Love’s Pure Light’, recorded pipes and whistle music for the Irish Repertory Theatre’s staging of ‘The Field’ and was a member of the cast of the 2005 Broadway production of Eugene O’Neill’s ‘A Touch of the Poet’, starring Gabriel Byrne in which he directed, recorded and performed all music for the show.
Solo Recordings
His debut solo recording, My Love is in America was released on the Claddagh label in 2005 and was the subject of a number of radio interviews including RTE’s arts program ‘Rattlebag’ in 2006.
Claddagh released his second recording, Cuachín Ghleann Neifín on their Phaeton label in February 2007.
David has released independently, another solo piping cd "the eighteen Moloney" in 2014.

He featured in an audio-visual show called ‘The Frost is all Over’ with acordion player Tony MacMahon and specially comissioned poetry by Dermot Bolger, acting by Eamon Hunt, lighting and direction by John Comisky and production by David Teevan. It was premiered in 2008 at the Junction Festival in Clonmel and also at Tradition DL in Dun Laoghaire and has since been performed in the USA, Belgium, France, and Scotland as well as a number of times in Ireland.
Do Bhíosa Lá i bPort Láirge
A Music Network tour in May 2010 with Ciarán Somers and Fionn Mac Giolla Chuda called ‘Do Bhíosa Lá i bPort Láirge’ included novel three-part harmony arrangements for three sets of pipes.
Pipers Union
Pipers Union formed in 2013 when David and Ciarán Somers asked Donal Clancy to join them in concert. What started out as two separate acts quickly evolved into a trio. They create an aural landscape of traditional and contemporary styles, from rousing ballads and soft love songs to lively dance tunes and haunting airs. Donal Clancy and Pipers Union played at the Masters of Tradition Festival in August 2013 and continue to perform throughout the country.

Masters of Tradition on Tour
Following on from performances at the Masters of Tradition concert series in Bantry House, David played in the Sydney Opera House with Mairtín O’Connor, Seamie O’Dowd, Cathal Hayden, Iarla Ó’Lionard, Steve Cooney, Denis Cahill and Martin Hayes. In January 2011, a further ‘Masters of Tradition on Tour’ presentation took place at Merkin Hall, New York as part of Imagine Ireland, a year-long international promotion of the arts in Ireland. In March 2012, The ‘Masters of Tradition on Tour’ covered the United States taking in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Virginia, Washington and Denver. The 2013 US tour began at the University of Texas and ran for two weeks and nine performances on the east and west coasts of the US. ‘The Masters of Tradition on Tour’ played the National Concert Hall in Dublin in July 2013 . |
David and Martin Hayes continue to perform as a duet around Ireland. The Kilkenny Arts Festival 2015 was a wonderful artistic adventure for David; a duet performance with Martin Hayes, solo piping performance at the finale concert and playing in many secret garden venues, most notably a `Poetry Slam` with Robert Pinsky, American Poet Laureate . David is looking forward to many new collaborations at the Festival in 2016.
After the release of David`s third solo recording in March 2014, David has performed two solo piping tours of the eighteen Moloney on the east and west coast of the USA in 2014 and 2015.
APPLES IN WINTER is the title of a new piping & fiddle duet recording that David made with fiddler Willie Kelly in New York in October 2015. It was launched for sale online on the 29th of April 2016. Fiddler, Willie Kelly was born in the Bronx to a musical family from Ireland and is an extremely well-respected player and teacher in the USA. Together they are embarking on a selective tour in the Northeastern United States and Ireland launching their album, APPLES IN WINTER. The tour promises performances of pure quality; moving and deeply felt Irish traditional music at its best.
David is delighted to announce that there will be two very exciting tours in Ireland in the Autumn. A Music Network Tour with Harp, Fiddle and Dancer and a tour with Baroque ensemble, Camerata Kilkenny. This new collaboration arose from performances at the Kilkenny Arts Festival 2015.
